ANCIENT ROCK ART
The messages our ancestors inscribed on stone have endured through the millennia. Many of these inscriptions depict enigmatic humanoid figures, now-extinct megaflora and megafauna, geometric patterns, and sacred symbols. These depictions provide insights into their lifestyle, observations, and belief systems.
Ancient rock art includes:
– Petroglyphs: images created by removing part of a rock surface by incising, picking, carving, or abrading.
– Petrographs: images drawn or painted on a rock face.
– Geoglyphs: large designs or motifs (generally longer than 4 mt./13 ft.) produced on the ground.
